Boots 20th Birthday Ball was held on Saturday, 17th October, 2009 at the Hamilton RSL. 100 line dancers joined the group for the celebrations. Boots Line Dancers were joined by representatives from local groups Westlakes, Modern Country & Kickin' Country as well as Nelson Bay Bootscooters, Muswellbrook Linedance Express, Holiday Coast Bootscooters (Coffs Harbour), Ryleston & Mudgee, Coastal Bootscooters as well as Julie & Gary Talbot with some of their ladies from Bootscooters International, Sydney.
The theme for the evening was "Come along as a form of dance". We had ballerinas, bollywood dancers, belly dancers, latin dancers, Roaring 20's flappers, tap dancers, cheer leaders, ballroom dancers and of course line dancers. The fact that everyone joined in with the theme created a wonderful atmosphere on the night.
Boots Committee members and Boots dancers joined forces to create the fabulous decor. Ruth and Yvonne went to work creatively to produce professional and entertaining wall & floor decor. We even had Ralphee the Rap dancer with whom you could have your photo taken on the night. He proved to be very popular. Linda spent the afternoon putting together the balloon decorations.
In the background are those who help put all the pieces together on the night (or in this case on the nights before as well). Tables & chairs have to be moved and rearranged, tables need to be decorated, props need propping up, lights, posters and this time ballroom dresses had to be hung up. Food has to heated and served and the ensuing mess has to be cleaned up. And at the end of the night, it all has to be taken down and put away! What a job!
The door has to be manned, lucky door tickets need to be handed out and raffle tickets need to be sold. All of these jobs were completed by our trusty "Door Men" John and Jim.
The Birthday Cake cooked and decorated by Karen was a masterpiece and was delicious to boot! (Is that a pun?) The homemade quiches, sausage rolls, "pigs in blankets", fruit cake and caramel wafer slice made by Marilyn were delicious as well and went like hot cakes! (Is that another pun?) Noela and Jean excelled with an array of slices to have with a cuppa later in the evening once the Bar had closed.
Attending Instructors submitted dance requests prior to the evening and Carol put together a dance programme that kept everyone on the floor all night long. There were dances for every level of dancer and ones that appealed to everyones taste in music preference. There was also time left to accommodate dancers with special requests for regional favourites. DJ Noel sweated over his music box to keep the dancers on the floor all night with his usual professionalism.
A special performance by visiting "ballerinas" Jimette and Johnette was appreciated by the crowd, especially for its brevity!
All in all it was a fabulous night with fabulous guests who kept the night alive with their noisy banter and laughter. Thank you to everyone who helped in the preparation for the evening and thanks to everyone who attended and helped make the night the success it was.
